Internet radio or e-Radio is the broadcasting of audio files over the internet . A continuous steam of audio is available to listeners and they have no control over it. (other than switch it off ). Many internet radio stations are associated with conventional radio stations which broadcast through wireless means.
Since internet radio stations broadcast online, they are popular in countries where high speed internet connectivity is easily available and inexpensive. Unlike conventional radio stations, which are limited by the geographic area for which the broadcast signal is available, any person in any part of the world can listen to the broadcast from an internet radio station.
As it easily available worldwide, special interest groups are the main audience for internet radio. Traditional media outlets like radio and television do not cater to these groups which are usually too small and widely scattered for a service to be economically feasible. Internet radio is also popular among expatriates interested in news of their home country.
